Between 2003 and 2006, the remains of the only known surviving locomotive from the former Wellington & Manawatu Railway Company (WMR) were salvaged from their resting place beside the Bealey River near Arthurs Pass, where they had lain for more than 76 years.
The Wellington & Manawatu Railway Trust aims to restore this historically important locomotive – WMR No. 9 - to its former glory. It is our intention to present the locomotive as she would have appeared running on the WMR between 1902 and 1908
